Back in 1952, Miriam Kashiwa threw a spur-of-the-moment arts show in her front lawn to silence a second-homer lamenting the lack of cultural opportunities in this lakeside town. Well, she showed him: That show grew from those modest beginnings, to the town’s bandstand, to a succession of indoor spaces, to its own arts center years later. Now, the center has a LEED-certified 28,000-square-foot space opened in 2011, where exhibitions, workshops and performances are held regularly year-round.
