Training ground for young singers nears 100th anniversary
Imagine this reality-TV pitch: This is the true story … of 32 young vocalists … picked to develop their operatic and musical theatre skills … while performing all summer long … Well, it’s probably not coming to a television near you. But you can still catch a performance from these young talents at the Seagle Colony, founded in 1915 by opera star Oscar Seagle. Young actors apply for the privilege of studying at the colony; many have gone on to successful careers on stage. In addition to the performances – held in a 175-seat theatre – students take voice, acting and dance lessons and sing in master classes. Keep an eye out for traveling productions – Seagle performs at stages across the Adirondacks.
