Big Moose Lake: The one where that murder happened.
Paddle and be petrified.
Big Moose Lake, located in Herkimer County, is about 3 miles long and one mile wide. While many North Country lakes are known for the clarity of their water and stunning views from the shore, Big Moose Lake adds a layer of notoriety from a day in the early 1900's when its waters were not so clear; they were tainted with the blood of Grace Brown.
It is the the story of a promiscuous man, a child conceived out of wedlock and a woman whose day at the lake turned into a nightmare. Follow our friends at the Hamilton County Department of Economic Development and Tourism as they follow through Grace's last steps. Want the full story? Adirondack.net pulls together the history to satiate your thirst for local legend.
