Walking Tour: Wanakena Historical Association
Why notta walking tour in Wanakena?
The Wanakena Historical Association or (WHA) was formed in the year 2000 to: preserve historic sites and structures in the hamlet of Wanakena; disseminate and encourage greater knowledge of the history of the hamlet of Wanakena; gather, preserve, display and make available materials relating to the history of Wanakena.
The association has created and maintained the Otto J Hamele walking tour of Wanakena history, which attracts hundreds of visitors every year. The tour includes several picture kiosks around town, and a self-guided walking tour. A highlight of the tour includes a historic and recently re-constructed footbridge. It was said to be one of the longest suspension footbridges in the United States.
