Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum
The only Olympic museum in the United States packed with medals, mascots and more
The “Miracle on Ice” hockey game in 1980, in which the United States defeated the Soviet Union at the rink in the same building as this museum, is arguably the greatest sports moment in U.S. history. (If you love anything about sports, just try not getting goosebumps walking into the arena.) But this tiny treasure features a lot more than “Miracle” memorabilia - though you’ll find plenty of artifacts from that game. See an extensive collection of Olympic torches from other Games, displays of Olympic medals and equipment (check out the bobsleds), uniforms, and more. The New York Times called the museum “underrated”; don’t pass it by.
