Zwanzigstein Fest
19th-century ways live today at this celebration of Mennonite culture
The first Mennonites to settle in Lewis County were led by a group of 20 families – hence the name of this festival, which means “20 stones” in German. (It also refers to a Biblical story in which the Israelites who crossed the Jordan River were instructed by God to build a monument of stones.) More than a century later, the historic ways of that small, original band have survived, and Z Fest highlights traditional activities such as woodworking, bread making, logging, farm techniques, musical performances and more. Homemade, farm-fresh food (ice cream, too!) will be served.
